2007 was the year that small-sided football changed in the UK for ever. The Futsal FA Cup had it's first ever women's competition, the Umbro 5's were created, and the current landscape of mens futsal was carved out.
It was the year Watford Ladies FC demonstrated how the benefits of the small sided game translated well in helping develop a teams 11-aside game by going on to qualify for the Women's Premiership the following season.
It was when M.D.U established themselves as the UK's leading 5-aside team having claimed every title over the previous 10 years (including the world soccer crown), the very 1st (& current) Umbro 5's champions & taking on the England Futsal team and Ipswich Wolves Futsal Club (2007 FA Cup Winners) in the"King of 5-aside" Tournament!
It was the year in which British Universities began to embrace futsal as an alternative to 11-aside, turning it into the largest and fastest growing team sport in higher education. This ground-breaking shift was brought about through the vision and hard work invested by those spearheading the futsal program at BUCS.
Pro-5 was there for it all, working both behind the scenes and directly with the teams involved. We supported when necessary and helped create new avenues when able to do so. Below are links to footage which give a brief look into 2007.
