Pro 5 Aside - Football & Futsal

Helping to provide and create new opportunities
through football, to people everywhere.....

Pro 5-aside began life in 1982 when having been inspired by the Brazil team from the 1982 World Cup the founder began exploring a new world of ideas and concepts related to the principles of football as a creative form in itself. It was born on the streets, parks and back alleys of Wembley and the surrounding areas!

This spawned a local culture which developed around the same time as hip-hop in the early 80's, of 1 on 1 street challenges where the best players around London would travel from area to area challenging the best players in other areas to winner takes all style battles. Sometimes for money but more often than not it was for the type of credibility and respect that could only ever be gained over time. Often these battles were 'freestyle' based!

Football Panel StripIn the late 80's & early 90's this progressed to organized street tournaments although may of the players involved were playing 1st team football at pro & semi-pro level for recognized 11-aside clubs up and down the country.

From that initial core group of talented players most went on to achieve many notable things within football. A classic example are the players who went on to form MDU (follow link to watch some vintage footage including a match against a premiership all-star team) who have been the undisputed best 5-aside team in the U.K for the past 10 years and the only UK team to be crowned World Champions when they took the title in Las Vegas!

In the 1990's while futsal, freestyle and street soccer were relatively unheard of, Pro5 founders had been using it as a tool in social projects both independently and with other organizations. Although many of their plans had to be put on hold due to a lack of infrastructure within London, the basic ethos which centered around creativity and expression was maintained and carried on through from project to project over the years.

In 2005 Pro5 re-established its development programs in Brent which included a 10-team Men's futsal league and since 2007 has also incorporated Ladies futsal & 5-aside leagues. At the time they relocated to Willesden sports centre but have since relocated back to Wembley. Pro5 now work along-side most of the recognized UK Futsal Leagues, Teams and Organizations along with their International Friends to help provide an extensive scope of opportunities both domestically and internationally! In 2007 Pro5 also made inroads in trying to get local London based universities more aware of and involved in Futsal!

BUCS LogoIn addition to futsal & the 11-aside game, Pro 5 have been involved with the major 5-aside teams in the UK for many years. This extends to communities and individual players around the UK. Let us not also forget our free spirited friends and partners around the world who continue to expand our most basic form of collective and individual expression while pushing back the boundaries through freestyle and street football.

Pro-5 has been supporting grass roots football, both 11-aside and the 'Small Sided Game' since its inception. We have helped nurture and develop players who now compete at both national and international level. We continue to work alongside our colleagues and associates locally and internationally in delivering football related services worldwide.

FA Badge LogoWe have now expanded to offer much more than competitive leagues and training services. Having built on our media projects and contact base we now offer a range of services which we will continue to roll out globally, while not losing touch with the UK's top Teams, Players and Institutions who we continue to support. For us it's about learning more and using that understanding to help others express themselves & develop their potential, to help make that better tomorrow!

Having supported both the UK National Futsal League and Umbro Fives competitions from concept right through to their realization in 2007 we have remained a contributor to both the male and female competitions ever since. As the UK's premier 5-aside tournament the Umbro Fives sees teams who qualify for the latter stages playing at Wembley Stadium for the crown of the UK's #1 Team!

The winners of the National Futsal League each season go on to represent England in the European UEFA Cup. There is also the domestic FA Cup which is open to a wider number of the futsal teams within the UK.

Pro 5 has always supported smaller competitions and event organizers and will be working along-side a greater number of them throughout the UK and Europe. Our involvement with European football extends also to the Freestyle Scene having worked with many of the leading names in that field. We have been involved in film production and provided media coverage for events since 2006.

We have strong links and working relationships with many sport related organizations and charities around the world. Pro 5 has developed close ties to those in Brazil, Australia, Portugal, Spain, France, Holland, North America, Japan, China, Russia, Iran, the Caribbean and many African Counties.

Ghana Football Badge LogoIn particular there is a bond with many of those who are involved with the "Black Stars" of Ghana, including close friend Otto Addo. As part of its worldwide development projects aimed not only at excellence but also social development, Pro5 has chosen "the poor man's Brazil" Ghana, as one of their main partners from its list of developing nations. This often incorporates working along-side numerous international organizations, which has enabled us all to do more while focusing on the talent and challenges here in the UK!

Pro 5 would like to thank all our friends across the world which include numerous teams, international coaches and players, communities, organizers, venues, officials, sponsors, UK organizations and many others who have continued to support the ideals and principles on which the movement was founded. All these differing factions have been brought together into one place which has revolutionized the football landscape forever. This quiet revolution was televised and we were all both participants and spectators!Freestyle Football Picture
